Visual Communications requirement= Macbook Pro

College Laptop Purchase Packages for 2023 are now online!

Graphic design and photography students are required to purchase an Apple Macbook Pro laptop computer with the following minimum* specifications for 2023-24:

  • Apple M2 Pro Chip
  • 12-Core CPU with 8 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores
  • 19-Core GPU
  • 16-core Neural Engine
  • 200GB/s memory
  • 16GB unified memory
  • 1TB SSD Storage
  • 16.2-inch (diagonal) Liquid Retina XDR display
  • Three Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI port, SDXC card slot, MagSafe 3 port, 3.5 mm headphone jack
  • Backlit Magic Keyboard with Touch ID
  • Force Touch trackpad
  • 140W USB-C Power Adapter

*Please note that Apple will often upgrade some of these specs as new models are released. The current 16” Macbook Pro offered on the Micros Northeast purchase website (link below) meets or exceeds all the specs recommended for the Photography and Visual Communications programs.

College Laptop Purchase Packages for 2023 are now online!

Hard Drives and Storage
Solid State Drives

A portable solid state drives for use in the Mac labs and for working with large files is required.  We recommend a portable solid state drive of at least 1 Terabytes. The interface should be USB-C/ Thunderbolt 3.

 

Recommended Brands:

  • Samsung 2TB T7 portable Solid-State Drive
  • SanDisk 2TB Extreme Portable SSD V2

Cloud Backup:

  A cloud-based backup service such as Backblaze.com for backup of your laptop and your solid state drive are recommended and will serve to protect and preserve data. 

Media card readers for photo transfers:  

Some older MacBook Pros Computers, not the one listed above, do not have a media card reader for transferring photographs on to your computer from the camera. If you have a computer without a media card reader, we recommend the following media card reader: SanDisk Extreme Pro SD Card USB Type-C Reader (for USB C ports on Computers)

(Note: An SD card reader is for the most common type of media card. If you have a different type of media card in your camera such as a CF Card you will need a different media card reader)

Required Software

  • Adobe Creative Cloud for Students (Mac)

  • Microsoft Office 365 for Students (Mac)* (Note: Endicott provides this software for free to all current undergraduate students. You will be able to download this.)
