What does it mean to be AI fluent? How can we tell when artificial intelligence gets something wrong? What should remain distinctly human, and where might AI actually make life at Endicott better?

Those questions will take center stage during Navigating AI @ Endicott, a four-day series of interactive workshops, conversations, demonstrations, and student-centered programming taking place October 5–8, 2026.

Designed for Endicott students, faculty, and staff, and presented by the Provost’s Office, the series reflects the College’s growing commitment to preparing its community to understand emerging technologies, question them, and engage with them thoughtfully and responsibly.

“This week could not have come at a more opportune time, given the shifting landscape of AI usage in higher education,” said Associate Provost Chris Westgate. “Students, faculty, and staff will explore new perspectives on how to think with and without AI, fostering conversations around reflective approaches to mental effort and original thought. Ultimately, I hope attendees leave with a new understanding of what a critical position on AI means, not merely as something deconstructive, but as a constitutive framework for a new way of being in the world.”

The initiative grew out of Endicott’s June AI Institute and months of collaboration among faculty and staff from across the College through its AI Council and AI Steering Committee. Rather than focusing solely on the latest tools, the week will explore AI through four interconnected themes: What is AI and AI literacy?; Building Critical AI Literacy; Keeping Humans at the Center of AI; and Institutional Problem Solving.

Programming begins Monday, October 5, with an AI Open House in Halle Library featuring Boodlebox, multiple AI models to experiment with, expert guidance, and free pizza. 

Additional sessions throughout the week will explore everything from AI’s history in popular culture and prompt engineering to bias, misinformation, mental health, academic integrity, environmental impact, career readiness, and the enduring importance of human creativity and judgment. Students will also take center stage during “In Their Own Words: Student Perspectives on AI, Ethics, and Academics,” a candid October 6 panel examining how Gulls are navigating AI in their coursework, internships, and preparation for a rapidly changing workplace.

The series concludes October 8 with “From Focus Groups to Commitment,” which will invite students, faculty, and staff to consider campus processes where AI could solve a meaningful problem and help identify an area for future institutional action.
