Cynthia Merkle Wins Industry Leadership Award

11/11/2019

Congratulations to Endicott College Board of Trustees Chair Cynthia Merkle '77, who was recently awarded the Sandra J. Pattie Distinguished Leadership Award at the New England Women in Banking Conference. The award honors women who have made outstanding contributions and “helped change the face of banking in New England.”

Merkle has been president and CEO of Union Savings Bank in Danbury, Conn., since 2014. Prior to joining Union Savings Bank as COO in 2013, she served as executive vice president at Eastern Bank—the largest independent and mutually owned bank in New England. The 2019-2020 Chair of the Connecticut Bankers Association, Merkle is the first woman to lead the CBA. She is also the first female chair of the Endicott Board of Trustees, elected in October 2016.

The New England Women in Banking Conference is specifically designed for women in the banking, credit union, and mortgage professions, providing keynote speakers and opportunity for networking with accomplished women leaders. Also honored was Gilda M. Nogueira, president and CEO of East Cambridge Savings Bank.
