Our On-Campus and Off-Campus Veteran Gulls

Veterans Day at Endicott College
Veterans are a vital part of the fabric of Endicott College.
11/11/2019

Veterans are a vital part of the fabric of Endicott College. Their life experience and leadership skills are evident across our entire continuum in the undergraduate programs, at our Van Loan School at Endicott College, on our Boston campus, and among our faculty and staff. In fact, among other high ratings from 2020 U.S. News & World Report, Endicott

was selected as No. 11 on the Best Colleges for Veterans Regional Universities North list.

In the spirit of Veterans Day, we are going to introduce you to four of our on-campus and off-campus veteran Gulls.

Name: Nichole Bishop

Age: 34

Military Rank: Corporal

Countries / States Visited: Baghdad, Iraq, Germany, Mississippi, New Jersey, Virginia

Degree: Psychology

Dream Job: Program Coordinator/Substance Abuse Counselor with Veterans Affairs

Advice to Others: It is never too late to educate yourself or find a career that makes you happy. Juggling family life, two kids, and a full-time job can be a challenge while going to school, but it’s definitely not impossible.

Veterans Day at Endicott CollegeChief Warrant Officer Two, Dennis Paul Bishop

Name: Dennis Paul Bishop

Age: 44

Military Rank: Chief Warrant Officer Two

Countries/States Visited: South Korea, Germany, Iraq, Kuwait, and all over the U.S.

Degree: Business Administration

Dream Job: I currently work for the Defense Contract Management Agency as an electronics quality assurance specialist (I love my job).

Advice to Others: Take advantage of your GI Bill. Veterans are fortunate to have these wonderful benefits and too many do not take advantage. I work full-time and have two young children; however, I find my school work manageable with strict organization and discipline. My education journey has significantly improved my performance in my civilian career by improving my writing and communication skills.

The Endicott Experience: I transferred to Van Loan in the summer of 2019 from a Massachusetts community college. My military degree audit started me at 85 credit hours and significantly cut the amount of time to graduation. The support staff and education staff has been fantastic. I found the enrollment process extremely easy. My hope is to graduate in the spring of 2020 and start my Master of Business Administration.

Dream Job: Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)

The Endicott Experience: My experience here at Endicott has been wonderful. The teachers are great and the administration/advisors have been incredibly helpful. I enjoy the small student-to-faculty ratio and find that the quality of education is exceptional.

Name: William Joseph Todd

Degree: Seeking a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and a master’s degree in homeland security.

Dream Job: Homeland Security Investigations

Advice to Others: Create good, disciplined habits, get outside of your comfort zone, and stay humble.

The Endicott Experience: My experience as a veteran at Endicott has exceeded my expectations. Endicott made it stress-free and easy to transfer and maintain my previous school and military credits. The faculty have been very professional in every aspect. The flexibility of Van Loan has allowed me to balance work, school, family, and internships while still having access to world-class instructors and guest speakers. In a state with so many prestigious colleges, Endicott distinguishes itself by professionally preparing its students for the needs of the modern workforce.

As you can see, our veterans are varied in many ways, but are all dedicated, talented, and hardworking people. We are proud that they have chosen to serve their country, and are even more proud to call them Gulls.
