NARRATIVE VALUES WITHIN STORYTELLING ABSTRACT Benjamin Dages: The Values of Narrative in Storytelling Thesis Advisor: Cynthia Roberts The topic of this thesis involves exploring the primary components of narrative storytelling across multiple social entertainment platforms like cinema, sound design, illustration, and animation, as well as how the hero’s journey appears in these forms. The project was heavily inspired by children's stories and classic fairy tales. The goal is to investigate all facets of storytelling in a variety of situations. Initial questions that were asked in light of this consideration included: ▪️What are the values of prequels and sequels within a franchise? ▪️What makes a story’s characters relatable? ▪️What are the steps taken in sequential storytelling? The literature review of this thesis investigates these questions and answers them with information backed by credible and scholarly sources. The most influential of these sources include: The Hero With A Thousand Faces, by Joseph Campbell, Cinema and Media Studies, from Oxford Bibliographies, and The Art of Storytelling, Khan Academy’s informative inside look at Pixar’s storytelling process. The result of this research is an original comic style narrative with its own cast of characters that tell a unique story of their own. 🎞 🎥 @dagesbenjamin . . . #thisisendicott #endicottarts #endicottcollege #gogulls #heroesjourney #storytelling #josephcambell
Kerry Driscoll is a graduating senior finishing with a BFA in Interior Architecture. She successfully completed an intensive, six-month internship at CUBE 3, in addition to two previous internships focused in residential design. Her undergraduate thesis concentrated on combining volunteerism and hospitality to create a one of a kind resort experience for guests. While her passion is wide ranging, Kerry hopes to continue to broaden her scope in the design field and find her niche. “My thesis project ‘The Cove’ will serve as a destination for tourists and locals to participate in service excursions with the intent to benefit the impoverished surrounding community. The average Bali tourist generates approximately 3.7 pounds of trash per day. This waste is not properly disposed of and is often retained in the ocean and environment. ‘The Cove’ will guide volunteer groups through ocean restoration and waste removal missions with the goal to minimize pollution in the area. In addition to the positive environmental impact, volunteers will build relationships with each other through service work. @kerrydriscoll . . . #thisisendicott #endicottarts #gogulls #endicottcollege #interiordesign #interiorarchitecture #environmentaldesign #bali #ocean #oceanpollution #cleanuptheworld
“The Arno printed on metal; the photo was taken from the Ponte Vecchio while studying abroad in Florence during the fall semester. This semester, in Professor Miller's experimental photography class, we experimented with sanding metal and then printing on it to give the photo a textured, metallic look." - Amelia Castillo @ameliacastelli . . . #pontevecchio #thisisendicott #endicottcollege #endicottarts
