Profile

Dan Frank is an Assistant Professor of Film & TV Production. He is a also a film and TV producer and director, having worked in multiple formats and genres. His work has screened theatrically, on PBS, Discovery, FOX, Amazon, HGTV, DIY, FX, TLC, NBC Universal, New England Sports Network, and more. His work on documentary films has been featured at a wide variety of film festivals including Big Sky, Slamdance, New Orleans Film Festival, and the Vancouver Asian Film Festival.

Dan is the co-founder and co-director of the Lowell Film Festival for Future Filmmakers, the largest student film festival in New England. The festival features short films created by high-school, college undergraduate and graduate students regionally and across the world.

He has also taught at Clark University and the University of Massachusetts-Lowell, where he was awarded a Teaching Award of Excellence in 2023.

Dan is the faculty advisor for ECTV.

Selected Accomplishments

Divia
Executive Producer. Feature-length documentary filmed during the war in Ukraine. Premiered at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in Czechia. It has screened at the Sarajevo Film Festival, COP30 2025 UN Climate Change Conference, Ann Arbor Film Festival, Virginia Film Festival, and others. Nominated for an International Documentary Association (IDA) Award. 2025 - 2026.

Cow Sense
Producer. Documentary short about two accomplished sisters and rodeo champions from the San Luis Valley in Colorado. Screened at the Denver Film Fest and distributed to Rocky Mountain Public Television and the PBS App. 2025.

Never Again Para Nadie
Co-Director and Co-Producer. Documentary short about an incident at a Rhode Island private prison that resulted in violence. Screened at the Woodstock Film Festival, Independent Film Festival Boston, New Hampshire Film Festival, and others. Award winner at the Big Muddy Film Festival, Anchorage Film Festival, and Sherman Oaks Film Festival. 2023.

Boston – The Documentary
Coordinating Field Producer. Documentary about the Boston Marathon, filmed a year after the 2014 bombing. Theatrical Release in 2017. Streaming and TV release began in 2018.

Cool Spaces
Director, Writer, and Co-Producer. Limited TV series syndicated on PBS about US architecture. Aired in the top 50 US markets, NatGeo Asia & South Korea, and steams on Amazon. Featured architects include Frank Gehry, Phil Freelon and Steven Holl. Locations cover Los Angeles, Kansas City, Dallas, New York City, Seattle, Las Vegas, Charlotte, Phoenix, and more. 2015.

Harvard Medical School: Spotlight on Medical Education
Director. Council for Advancement and Support of Education & Bellringer Awards for marketing projects produced for Harvard Medical School. 2017.

Marathon Love
Coordinating Producer for a Discovery Channel documentary. Winner of New York TV & Film Festival Award and Gabriel Award. 2010.

Invention & Alchemy
Producer of live performance and TV program. Syndicated concert aired on PBS stations. Received a Grammy Award Nomination for Best Classical Crossover Album. 2007.

Be a Bruin
A limited TV Series on New England Sports Network. 2007 New England Emmy winner.
