Arelismarid Flores ’22 is a first-time freshman studying business management at Endicott College’s Van Loan School of Professional Studies in Boston.

As a single mother, she has been in the Jeremiah Program since 2019, where she learned of Endicott’s Single Parent Program available in Boston. Prior to enrolling in a full-time degree program, Flores completed the free Smart Start college preparation course, Introduction to College Writing, this past summer. She described the experience as “amazing.” She says, “I had so much fun and I absolutely adored the professor. He was very kind and I know that everything I learned is going to help me during my future semesters in college.”

“I felt important, supported, and encouraged to pursue my education. I can't wait to see what else I can accomplish.”  —Arelismarid Flores ’22

The course is intended for students who need additional support in preparation for college-level writing. “It has helped me tremendously because my confidence is back and I forgot how much I loved to learn, write, and participate in class discussions,” says Flores. “The faculty and staff are amazing as well. I felt important, supported, and encouraged to pursue my education. I can’t wait to see what else I can accomplish.”
