While conducting tutoring sessions in a face-to-face environment is ideal, sometimes circumstances require other options.
Online tutoring sessions offer the convenience of interacting with a tutor from the comfort of your own residence or dorm room. You and your tutor will be able to see your work simultaneously and chat through an online portal while you make revisions. As with face-to-face sessions, online tutoring can be scheduled for 30-minute or one-hour sessions.
Real-time Online Tutoring
Working with an online tutor requires preparation. Make sure you have a sense of what specific help you need during the session (ex. organization, in-text citations, drafting a thesis statement, etc.). For asynchronous tutoring, tutors can give feedback on up to five pages at a time; if you are sending a longer document, please tell us where to focus our attention. As with our face-to-face sessions, online tutoring does not mean that we are providing an editing service, and tutors will not correct your paper. Instead, they will point to places where you might improve your work and offer examples of how to do so.
Email Tutoring Support
In addition to the online tutoring option, the Writing Center will continue to offer feedback via email. A tutor will reply to you within 48 hours to confirm receipt of the paper and to give you an estimated turnaround time. We aim to respond to all papers within 72 hours of this confirmation email (five days from the time you submit your original request).
