Overview

Medical, Dental and Veterinary Professional Schools as well as Graduate Schools (Ph.D. in science disciplines) typically require for admission the following in college preparation:

• One year of general chemistry with labs
• One year of organic chemistry with labs
• One year of general biology with labs
• One year of physics with labs
• One course in sub-organismal area e.g. genetics, immunology et al
• One year of mathematics including or above the calculus level 
• Many schools require one year of anatomy and physiology with labs, microbiology et. al.

An interested student should research the requirements for their chosen field and target professional/graduate schools prior to junior year, since requirements vary between programs.

Graduate and Professional School Entrance Test Preparation

Acceptance to graduate and professional schools often depends on your performance on standardized tests such as the MCAT, GRE, OAT, DAT, and other exams. Drawing from their experience, the Endicott Science faculty members provide these helpful tips:

• Plan on taking any required exams in the spring of the academic year before you apply - i.e. if you will be applying to medical school during your Senior year, take the MCAT exam in the spring of your Junior year. This leaves plenty of time to retake the exam in the summer, if necessary.
• Studying and preparation should start a full semester before the test is scheduled - i.e. if you will be taking an exam in the spring of your Junior year, prepare for it throughout the fall of your Junior year. Your efforts in preparing yourself for the exam are critically important.
• To avoid brain burn, do not take the GRE General Test and any required Subject Test in the same session. You will achieve better results if you space them out a bit.
• Fully utilize your on-campus resources, such as faculty members, advisors, the student-run Endicott Biotech Society, Phi Sigma, Sigma Xi, etc. A wealth of experience and advice is all around you.
• A variety of preparation resources are available to help you, including books, courses, online resources, and sample test questions from the testing organizations themselves. Endicott College does not endorse any one preparation resource - take your learning style, schedule, and budget into consideration in creating a preparation plan.
