Title: Recycling Coordinator

Hours: Full-Time; will require some weekends and evenings
Description:

 1)      Ensure that collection of recycling is timely and efficient.     

  • Collect single stream recycled materials from throughout the Endicott campus.  Maintain recycling containers in clean condition. 
  • Collect or coordinate the collection of other materials including, but not limited to:  metals; electronics; printer wastes; food and yard waste; and construction debris.   
  • Provide input into and research of recycling contracts and recycling container selection.  Coordinate contracts with Director of Sustainability and others.  
  • Hire, train, and work with student workers in the collection of recycled material.    Students typically include work-study and restitution students, but may also include students affiliated with the Beverly School for the Deaf or Beverly High School.    
  • Research and make recommendations about new technologies, techniques and vendors related to campus solid waste management.  
  • Develop and update collection plans for new and existing facilities. 
  • Track solid waste and recycling data for a variety of materials.  Calculate recycling rates for tracking, benchmarking, and contests.   

2)      Identify and implement waste recycling reduction projects including, but not limited to: the end of year capture of used books, clothing, and housewares; move-in; Earth Day events, etc.  (Will require some weekend or evening work hours.)

 3)      Communicate recycling information to the college community and promote efforts where appropriate.   This includes physical plant staff trainings, RA/RD trainings, admissions staff and tour guide trainings, as well as written and electronic communications.  Coordinate recycling contests.  Use social media to communicate.  Serve as a liason to the Endicott Environmental Society (requires some evening meetings).

 4)      Identify research, implement, track and promote campus sustainability efforts in coordination with the Director of Sustainability.   Current examples include: on-campus Community Supported Agriculture program, STARS tracking system, Earth Day events, water conservation, grounds, etc.  

5)      Perform other duties to meet the needs of the College and department and maintain a positive working relationship with all departments.   

6)      Assist Physical Plant with shoveling and emergency situations.   

7)      Stay current on relevant regulations including RCRA and the Massachusetts solid waste bans.  Keep abreast of new requirements.  

8)      Assist in the college greenhouse. 

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor Degree
  • Demonstrated interest in environmental issues and sustainability
  • Ability to promote and represent the College
  • Ability to engage and motivate students
  • Ability to keep organized records and to analyze data sets
  • Good communication skills
  • Possess a valid Massachusetts driver's license
  • Ability to use Word, Excel, and SPSS
  • Availability to work occasional weekends and/or evenings
  • Ability to lift up to 35-50 lbs.
