Biographical Profile
Kathleen (Katie) Barnes is currently the Dean of Academic Resources Director for the Center for Teaching and Learning and the Disabilities Coordinator, prior to which she served as Acting Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, Assistant Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences; Chair of the Physical Therapist Assistant Program and Academic Coordinator of Clinical Education. As the Dean of Academic Resources she is responsible for the Center for Teaching and Learning, Advising Services Center, Academic Technology, the Diane M. Halle Library, the Writing Center, and the Teaching Excellence Program. Katie holds several clinical certifications and has published articles as well as presented internationally in the areas of Pediatric Physical Therapy, Assistive Technology, First Year Experience, and Licensure Regulation. She has been very active in her professional organizations serving on several committees, the Board of Directors, and as Secretary for RESNA - Rehabilitation Engineering; Assistive Technology Society of North America and on local committees for the American Physical Therapy Association. Katie served for nine years (including 3 years as chair) on the Massachusetts Board of Allied Health Professions which oversees the licensure and regulation of the fields of Athletic Training, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy. Most recently, Katie has served on committees/task forces for the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy. In 2011, Katie finished two terms on the Ethics and Legislative Committee, which she served as chair for the last term.
