Education: At age nineteen, traveled to Paris to pursue university studies in law and philosophy.
Professional Career: In 1991, at the age of twenty-five, her first novel was published and immediately received critical acclaim and high record sales. Her works describe the segregated sexual tension between men and women in Algeria.

Education: Studied history at the Ecole Normale of Sevres, France.
Professional Career: Writer and professor of History at the University of Algiers. The main themes of her writing focus on the plight of women in Algeria. She is also a renowned film maker.
