Endicott College Boston to offer Associate Degree in Hospitality

Boston, MA -- Endicott College Boston, the academic center located at 19 Temple Place in Downtown Crossing, has announced that it will be offering an Associate degree in Hospitality starting Fall 2013. The Associate degree is a two year course covering basic business management as well as hotel, food and beverage, and events management. Students will learn a core curriculum of Arts and Humanities, Math and Science, and General Psychology.

Marcelo Juica, Director of Endicott College Boston said: “The hospitality industry in Boston is among the strongest in the nation. With new hotels and the recent addition to the South Boston Convention Center, the demand for an educated workforce will continue to grow. Programs like this will help provide the industry with skilled, local workers.”

Endicott has reached out to the stakeholders in the industry to tailor the program to the real needs of the community. Brian Pellinen, Academic Dean of Professional Studies, has worked closely with the front line management of local hotels as well as their respective corporate offices. “In some hotels as many as 50% of the management positions are filled by someone already working at the hotel,” said Pellinen. “That will soon be the norm and it highlights the need for programs that are relevant to the working individual. The hospitality industry is a career gateway for many people, and we want to help students build the skills to make it an even more rewarding career choice.”

Many of the prospective students will be first generation college attendees, and in many cases first generation Americans. This new program is built for both students new to the hospitality field or those already in the industry and looking to continue to work towards earning a college degree. Endicott has always been an innovator in assisting students in accrediting prior learning or life experience, and that practice will apply to this new degree as well. “Our counselors will work one-on-one with students to assist them in crafting a personalized schedule and financial package.” said Juica.
