Currently, the Writing Center offers online synchronous tutoring through our WCOnline system. While conducting tutoring sessions in a face-to-face environment is ideal, we recognize that online forums have numerous benefits. For one, students will have the convenience of interacting with a tutor from the comfort of their own residence or dorm room, as well as the familiarity of working in an online community. The online tutoring option will allow both the student and the tutor to see the work and chat through an online portal while the student makes revisions. As with face-to-face sessions, online tutoring can be scheduled for half-hour or hour sessions.
In addition to the online synchronous tutoring option, the Writing Center will continue to offer limited asynchronous online tutoring (see the form below). A tutor will reply to you within 48 hours to confirm receipt of the paper and to give you an estimated turnaround time. While we aim to respond to all papers within 72 hours of this confirmation email (5 days from the time you submit your original request), we may not always be able to do so.
Please plan ahead if you would like to work with an online tutor; in other words, make sure you have a sense of what you'd like to work on during the session (ex. organization, in-text citations, drafting a thesis statement, etc.). For asynchronous tutoring, tutors can give feedback on up to 5 pages at a time; please tell us where to focus our attention if you are sending a longer document.
As with our face-to-face sessions, online tutoring does not mean that we are providing an editing service and tutors will not correct your paper; rather, they will point to places where you might improve your work and offer examples of how to do so.
