Endicott Mingo Yearbook Cover 2011When and how did the Endicott College Yearbook name MINGOTIDE originate?

In the October 25, 1941 issue of the College newspaper “Endicott Junior” Vol.III, No. 3, the name MINGOTIDE was selected as a result of a College wide contest. The first yearbook was produced for the class of 1942.

The name MINGOTIDE was submitted by student Jane (Kerrigan) Murphy ’42 stating  ” the College is located on Mingo Hill and faces Mingo Beach where the tides rise and fall as the classes come and go.”

Other names submitted as possible names included Sea Echoes, White Caps, Mingo-Pride, and Editognim (Mingotide spelled backwards.)

MINGOTIDE has continually been produced since 1942.
