, September 20-22 and 27-29, 2013.
Now celebrating 12 years, Trails & Sails is an annual celebration of the historic, cultural and natural treasures found in the Essex National Heritage Area. Organized by the Essex National Heritage Commission, more than 4,000 attendees are expected to take part in a diverse line up of events appealing to everyone from Civil War buffs and art lovers to “foodies”, paddlers, bikers and more.
Endicott College’s historic buildings walking tour includes estates that were once used as summer homes by some of Boston’s most prominent families. The “Gold Coast” was a playground for the well to do. The wealthy built sprawling oceanside estates designed by leading architects, featuring palatial rooms for entertaining, terraces, elaborate gardens, tennis courts, and stables for the family thoroughbreds. During the summer these families attended weddings, partied on lawns and verandas, rode their horses at Myopia Hunt Club, and sailed the waters of Massachusetts Bay. Endicott College restored and cares for these buildings. Today they serve as residence halls, administrative buildings, and conference centers.
All Trails & Sails events are free and most are available on a first-come, first serve basis, with the exception of a few reservations required events. Visit www.trailsandsails.org
