Nursing Lab Expansion Receives Lutz Grant
School
of Nursing received the Evelyn Lilly Lutz Foundation Grant for a new “Adult Care
Simulation Laboratory.” Since receiving
the Lutz Foundation Grant monies in February we have been busy preparing for
the Nursing Lab expansion. We have
purchased new equipment including a Vital Sim mannequin and a state for the art
computerized barcode medication dispensing unit. When classes finish this Spring, the School of
Nursing will acquire AC 208 and will be turning that classroom into a simulated
medical unit. There will be three patient simulators, one in a "private
room" and two in a "semi private room" along with a simulated
nursing station. This new lab will simulate an actual medical unit and give our
nursing students a more realistic clinical experience to perfect their nursing
skills and assessments.
After we move all the human patient simulators across the hall, the current lab
in AC216 will be transformed into a Health Assessment and Fundamental lab where
students will have plenty of room to learn and develop their fundamental
skills and learn basic patient care. The students will have more room to
work on learning to move patients safely and care for their patients in a
healthcare setting. We are very thankful to the Evelyn Lilly Lutz Foundation
which has provided Endicott nursing students with state of the art equipment
and more space to use it in! The expansion of the nursing
laboratory will be completed for Fall 2011.
