The Writing Center, located in the Diane M. Halle Library (Room 126), has dedicated professional and peer tutors from a variety of fields who work with hundreds of Endicott students, faculty, and staff each semester. We offer free one-on-one conferences to discuss any writing for any Endicott class -- undergraduate or graduate. Though we welcome walk-in appointments if tutors are available, the best way to meet with a tutor is to make an appointment through our online scheduling system.
The typical tutoring session lasts a half-hour, though you can schedule hour appointments if you'd like. Together with the tutor, you set the agenda for the session, discussing what you feel are the most crucial writing tasks you'd like to work on for a particular assignment. Writing tutors can help you in any of the following areas:
- Understanding assignments
- Brainstorming ideas
- Organizing information
- Developing clear arguments and ideas
- Writing or developing thesis statements
- Constructing transition sentences
- Finding and using sources (research, quotation, and paraphrasing)
- Citing sources in APA, MLA, or Chicago-style format
- Writing strong introduction and conclusions
- Learning strategies for improving grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure
- And much, much more!
Writing tutors do not edit or proofread your papers; rather, and as stated in our mission statement, our purpose is to help you learn how to improve upon your writing by finding your own voice as a developing writer.
